How do Tam Farms and Lily differ?
Tam Farms is the model. Lily is a location. These two concepts are often confused — this article distinguishes them clearly.
One of the most common questions when learning about the system is: "Are Tam Farms and Lily one thing or two?" The short answer: Tam Farms is a chain model, Lily is the first reference location (Reference Location 01) within that network. They are related but not the same.
Tam Farms = the model
Tam Farms manages the elements that belong to the system and methodology:
- Methodology — how journeys are designed, how accompaniment works, how evaluation is done.
- Standards — location, expert, and program standards.
- Systems — registration, screening, certification, and replication processes.
- Brand — positioning, messaging, naming.
Lily = a location
Lily provides the elements that belong to physical space and real-world operations:
- Space — gardens, workspace, living quarters, common areas.
- Capacity — the number of people received at one time.
- Safety — fire safety, security, emergency response procedures.
- Schedule — opening hours, intake schedule, program schedule.
- Legal compliance — lodging licenses, business registration, tax obligations.
A location can leave, the model endures
This is the most important point to understand. If a location no longer meets the standards or the location owner decides to end the partnership, the Tam Farms model continues to exist and grow. The model does not depend on a specific location. Conversely, a location is only called Tam Farms certified when it continuously meets the standards set by the model.
Not all Tam Farms activities take place at Lily
Tam Farms has activities that are not tied to a specific location: program design, expert training, standard evaluation, material development. These activities belong to the model. Meanwhile, activities that require physical space — lodging, direct experience, gardening, workshops — take place at Lily or other member locations in the future.
Tam Farms sets the standard. Lily implements the standard. Participants receive a consistent experience because both fulfill their respective roles.
